Bulgaria's prosecution may press new charges against Roma clan leader Kiril Rashkov, aka Tsar Kiro over illegal usury and large-scale tax evasion.

Apart from that, a police search of property belonging to the notorious Roma kingpin yielded cigarettes without excise strip stamps, Legal World Magazine reported, as cited by Darik radio.

Pre-trial proceedings for tax crimes were opened in the days following Rashkov's arrest.

The Roma clan leader was placed and continues to be under arrest as the investigation continues.

A tax audit has been assigned to determine the exact amount of the sum which Rashkov failed to pay.

As regards the usury count, the police search of property of the Roma boss yielded lists of people's names and the sums of money they had been given.

Usury in itself is not a crime and the charges usually involve fraud or extortion.

Rashkov has already been charged with making death threats to Katunitsa residents, involving Angel Petrov, 19, who was run over and killed by a van driven by one of Rashkov's associates on September 23.

The investigation has not been completed but the prosecution has decided not to bring the case to court at this stage.

The case is very likely to be heard under the fast track litigation process and Rashkov may be given a suspended sentence and let free.

This is why the prosecution plans to file all charges in one go, the leading one being tax evasion.
