Plevneliev Vows to Be 'President of Bulgaria's Regions'

Regional development and road construction have been mentioned as key priorities by Rosen Plevneliev, the presidential candidate endorsed by the ruling Bulgarian centrist-right GERB.

"I will be the president of regional development and roads, I will be visiting different regions every day and meet with people," Plevneliev reiterated in the second largest Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on Tuesday. He used to be GERB's Regional Development Minister and the most popular member of PM Boyko Borisov's cabinet.

The Danube strategy, the road sector strategy, energy efficiency and the rehabilitation of residential buildings were named by the Plevneliev as his key priorities.

In Plovdiv, Plevneliev met with GERB's local mayor candidate, Ivan Totev.

Plevneliev, and his running mate, Justice Minister on leave, Margarita Popova, will face Sunday the candidates of the opposition, left-wing Socialist party, Ivaylo Kalfin, who is a former Foreign Affairs Minister in the Socialist-led Three-Way Coalition cabinet and a current Member of the European Parliament, and his running mate, former Culture Minister from the BSP quota and prominent actor, Stefan Danailov.
