Slain Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's most powerful son, Seif al-Islam, is reportedly making an attempt to flee to Niger after the victory of the Transitional National Council.

Seif al-Islam is reportedly being guided on his way by ethnic Tuaregs, according to  the Iranian Press TV.

"If he comes here, the government will accept him, but the government will also need to respect its international obligations. It's up to him to decide (whether to stay on the run or come to Niger)," Rissa ag Boula, an adviser to Niger's president, has commented, as cited by The Daily Mirror.

Members of the Gaddafi regime seeking refuge in Niger will not be turned back to Libya without guarantees for their safety, the West African nation's government has declared.

Earlier on Tuesday, Seif al-Islam's father Muammar Gaddafi was buried by members of the Libyan Transitional National Council.

The location of the burial will be kept secret over concerns that any public grave could become a shrine for Gaddafi loyalists or as a target of hatred for those who opposed his regime. Gaddafi was buried together with his son Mutassim and his former defense minister, Abu Baker Yunis.

On Sunday, Seif al-Islam allegedly pledged to take revenge for his father's death in a statement aired by a Syria-based TV channel.
