A lot of churches and monasteries are being built and renovated in Bulgaria, which makes the ruling GERB party proud, the country's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has declared.

On Tuesday, Borisov publicly presented a set of new contracts on church restoration projects across the country. He was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov and Rumen Porozhanov, CEO of the Bulgarian Agriculture Fund.

"Whenever a Bulgarian sees a dilapidated church, his or her self-esteem is brought down  – and vice versa," Borisov pointed out while speaking in the in the "Granite Hall" of the Council of Ministers building in downtown Sofia.

The Prime Minister added that a lot of new churches and monasteries have been built since his cabinet took over two years ago, which he described as "an answer to the Bulgarian nationalists."

"We rely on you to lead us in the right way, and what is most important, we rely on the Boss to help us," Borisov told the clerics who attended Tuesday's event. "The Boss" is how the Bulgarian Prime Minister has referred to God on a number of occasions.
