TNC Vice-Chairman Confirms Gaddafi Death

Al-Jazeera has shown a screen grab that seems to prove conclusively that Col Gaddafi is dead.

Muammar Gaddafi, Libya's former strongman, has been killed, Transitional National Council vice-chairman Abdul Hafiz Ghoga, has confirmed.

Ghoga has further declared that the liberation of all of Libya will be announced within hours, BBC reports.

Earlier on Thursday, Mohamed Abdel Kafi, another TNC senior official, told Reuters that the body of Muammar Gaddafi is being taken to a top secret location in Libya. Numerous other TNC officials have also confirmed the report.

Al-Jazeera has shown a screen grab that seems to prove conclusively that Col Gaddafi is dead. The image is taken from a video showing the former dictator's body being dragged along the ground.

Earlier a photo appeared to show Gaddafi heavily bloodied, but it was not possible to confirm the authenticity of the picture.

The news came shortly after the NTC captured Sirte, Gaddafi's hometown, after weeks of fighting.
