Libyan capital Tripoli has erupted in jubilation after the news that former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has been captured broke, followed by reports that he has died of his wounds.

International media correspondents stationed in Tripoli reported that the city has literally "gone wild" with chants, gunshots, and other means of celebrations about the capture of the dictator who ruled Libya for almost 42 years.

Gaddafi was technically ousted from power after the Battle for Tripoli, on August 21, when the rebel forces overwhelmed his loyalists in the capital city.

The jubilation in Tripoli grew after the reports of Gaddafi's death were unconfirmed.
