Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov has expressed his strong joy at the Tuesday release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was held by Hamas more than 5 years.

Mladenov further described the Israli decision to release in return more 1,000 Palestinian prisoners as "difficult, but bold and corageous."

According to the Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Minister, this move creates momentum in relations between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which he urges them to use in renewing talks.

"Special recognition is due to Egypt and Germany who worked tirelessly to ensure the release of Shalit," added Mladenov.

The Bulgarian top diplomat further recalls "the continuing plight of the people of Gaza" and urges that peace and security be ensured for them too.
