Incumbent Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova evades entering into substantial arguments, according to criticism voiced by rightist rival for the position on upcoming elections next Sunday Proshko Proshkov.

Sunday the Bulgarian National Television had arranged a debate among rightist Blue Coalition's Proshkov, Bulgarian Socialist Party candidate Georgi Kadiev and ruling center-right GERB party hopeful Fandakova.

However, Fandakova, who according to polls has the best chances to be elected, failed to turn out in the studio.

Proshkov and Kadiev presented their programs for managing the Bulgarian capital and addressed criticisms against the rule of Fandakova, pointing out issues such as waste disposal, stray dogs and traffic.

Another debate fell through Sunday, after Fandakova, Kadiev and Proshkov did not come to a meeting called by Vladimir Karolev, the candidate of the liberal National Movement for Stability and Prosperity.

According to a recent poll released by the Mediana agency, on October 23 32.2% of Sofianites will vote for Fandakova, and 17.7% for Kadiev, against 8.9% for Proshkov, 6.8% for nationalist Ataka candidate Nikolay Pehilvanov, and 4.1% for Karolev.
