Socialist Still Ahead of Rightist in Sofia Mayor Race - Poll

Incumbent Sofia Mayor, ruling center-right GERB party's Yoranka Fandakova, retains the certain first place in pre-election polls, with Bulgarian Socialist Party candidate Georgi Kadiev remaining second, according to a study released by Mediana Thursday.

According to the Mediana poll, 32.2% of Sofianites will vote for Fandakova, and 17.7% for Kadiev, against 8.9% for third runner, Proshko Proshkov, candidate of the rightist Blue Coalition.

Another study by Alpha Research released last week had reported that Proshkov had overcome Kadiev, with 12.9% against 12.4%, respectively.

The Mediana study released Thursday has it that the percentage of voters for Proshkov and the fourth-ranked candidate, nationalist Ataka's Nikolay Pehilvanov is getting closer, with 6.8% of the stuy's subjects saying they will vote for Pehlivanov.

The liberal National Movement for Stability and Prosperity's Vladimir Karolev comes out fifth with 4.1%.

According to Mediana, votes for municipal councilmen will rank parties in the same order, with GERB coming first, followed by the Socialists, Blue Coalition, Ataka and NMSP.
