Bulgaria and Romania's national football teams would probably be doing better if the two countries had the budget deficits of Spain, Italy, Portugal, or England, according to PMs Boyko Borisov and Emil Boc.

This perplexing causal relation was declared by Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov after meeting his Romanian counterpart in Bucharest, where the two countries' Cabinet held Wednesday their first ever joint sitting.

"Emil Boc and I joked that the Bulgarian and Romanian national football teams aren't doing very well. We find a serious correlation between budget deficits, debts, and football championship," Borisov stated in Bucharest, as cited by the BNR correspondent.

The Bulgarian PM's comment came after Bulgaria lost its last Euro 2012 qualifier 0:1 to Wales last night.

Shifting to a more serious tone, Borisov declared, "I hope that the EU will tolerate countries like ours who are disciplined and are fulfilling their commitments to the EU," apparently referring to the strict fiscal discipline in Bulgaria and Romania.
