Bulgarian firefighters are tackling two sizeable wildfires east and west of capital Sofia, which started at the very end of warm days in October.

The fire near the town of Ihtiman, some 35 km southeast of Sofia, has engulfed some 2,300 acres of shrubs and 125 acres of forests.

53 fire officers equipped with 14 vehicles have managed to localize the blaze and are extinguishing it, as rain is expected to set in Saturday afternoon.

The other fire, between Slivnitsa and Dragoman near the border with Serbia, has swallowed some 1,700 acres of shrubs, as 30 firefighers have been sent to battle it.

Authorities report that both fires have been contained and there is no danger for towns and villages nearby.
