Nine illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been caught on a freight train at a Bulgarian crossing on the Greek border.

At about noon on Friday, border police officers at Bulgaria's Kulata crossing inspected an 18-car freight train coming in from Greece, and headed to Austria. The nine men from Bangladesh were found hidden among the freight goods.

Some of the Bangladeshi immigrants had temporary Greek ID papers.

Bulgaria's Interior Ministry reported that this is the seventh case of detention of illegal immigrants in trains headed from Greece to Austria via Bulgaria and Serbia since the start of September 2011.

A total of 46 illegal immigrants have been detained in this way in a little over a month, the Border Police said.

Greece's border with Turkey has emerged as the most porous entry point for illegal immigrants into the Schengen Area/EU as of 2010.
