Rosen Plevneliev, the presidential candidate of Bulgarian ruling party GERB, has never stated he is favoring Russian energy projects in Bulgaria, contrary to an article published Thursday by Russian daily Kommersant, said GERB in a statement.

"We are resolutely expressing out indignation at the unprofessional approach of Kommersant's journalist, who attributed to Mr. Plevneliev things he has never said," reads the Buglarian ruling party statement.

The article had rejected the veracity of prior publications claiming in the probable elections of Plevneliev for president October 23, Russia will lose Bulgaria's friendship.

According to Kommersant, that earlier report was extensively commented upon, Plevneliev himself contacted the the paper to assure it:"If I do win the elections, we will be great friends with the Russian Federation."

In their statement, GERB say that what has been published by Kommersant is "absolute fiction" and that the paper has never contacted the presidential hopeful for an interview.

"The position of Rosen Plevneliev on Russian energy projects is very clear and has been stated many times in interviews over the past two years," conclude the Bulgarian ruling party.
