Bulgarian Parliament Chair Tsetska Tsacheva welcomed Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff into the Parliament building little after 16:30 on Wednesday.

The guest was ushered to the Plenary Hall and rang the parliament bell, after which she was given a mini version of it as a gift.

Rouseff thanked Tsacheva with a broad smile and a kiss and the two headed for the Parliament Chair's office for talks.

No media statements have been scheduled after the meeting.

Earlier Wednesday, Brazil's head of state, who is in Sofia as part of her European tour, was bestowed with Bulgaria's highest order Stara Planina.

The order was given to her by her Bulgarian counterpart, Georgi Parvanov.

Brazil is a strategic partner of the European Union and Bulgaria could play a very important part in the Latin American country's relations with the bloc, Rousseff pointed out after a subsequent meeting with Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

After the talks with Borisov, Rouseff listed agriculture, technologies, communications and education as the key economic spheres in which Brazil is willing to cooperate with Bulgaria.

This is the first visit ever of a Brazilian head of state to Bulgaria, also marking the 50th year since Bulgaria and Brazil restored their diplomatic relations.

Rousseff is in Bulgaria less than a year after she became the first female President of Brazil.

Dilma Rousseff, the daughter of Bulgarian immigrant Petar Rusev (Pedro Rousseff), has been eagerly expected in Bulgaria, all the more so because she has made clear her good feelings towards the home country of her father.

On October 06, Brazil's head of state will visit Veliko Tarnovo and Garbovo, the home town of her father, accompanied by Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Parvanov.

We need your support so can keep delivering news and information about Bulgaria! Thank you!
