Macedonia expects a third consecutive positive European Commission report on its progress towards joining the European Union, the Balkan country's parliamentary speaker, Trajko Veljanovski, has stated.

Veljanovski believes Macedonia is on the verge of receiving a concrete date on which its EU accession negotiations would begin.

"The region needs a positive signal. That would happen if a date is determined for the beginning of the Macedonia-EU negotiations, as well as the start of the negotiations for the other countries in th region. I believe that the reforms we are carrying out should be taken into consideration," Veljanovski said, as cited by the Macedonian Vecher daily.

On Tuesday, within the framework of the Ministerial Forum on Justice and Home Affairs EU-Western Balkans in Ohrid, Macedonian Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska and Europol director Robert Wainwright referred to putting into operation an information exchange agreement.

Jankuloska pointed out after the meeting that Macedonia and Croatia are the only regional countries having such an agreement with Europol.
