Margarita Berbatova, the mother of Manchester United's Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov has been really threatened with abduction, Btitish media outlets continue claiming.

"Premier League ace Dimitar Berbatov was stunned last night after a man was seized for allegedly threatening to kidnap his mother. The Manchester United forward's terrified mum Margarita received an email warning she would be abducted unless a large cash sum was handed over," The Sun wrote on Tuesday in what seems like an attempt to recycle an old "news story" that has already been refuted.

The British tabloid reminds that the father of Chelsea star John Obi Mikel was kidnapped in his native Nigeria last month before being freed unharmed.

Recently, Bulgarian police authorities detained 38-year-old Bulgarian Petar Antonov, who lives in Berbatov's home town of Blagoevgrad, after it was made clear that he had sent e-mails containing abduction threats to Berbatov's mother.

However, the man subsequently admitted he had just made a tasteless joke.

It was recently reported that Berbatov is sick and tired of watching Manchester United's games on the bench and is ready to demand a transfer during the upcoming winter transfer window.

Even though Berbatov has pledged on numerous occasions that he has no intentions of leaving the Red Devils, he has apparently grown too frustrated over not getting any first team opportunities.
