Bulgaria's national football team has dropped four spots in the FIFA World Ranking after its terrible performance in the last Euro 2012 qualifiers, registering losses from England and Switzerland.

Bulgaria have thus gone down to spot 55, below teams such Iran, Aremenia, and Scotland, a situation described as "shameful" by the Bulgarian press.

Bulgaria's FIFA ranking collapse comes just after the Bulgarian Football Union let German head coach of the team Lothar Matthaeus go in spite of expectations for a two-year extension of his contract. Matthaeus led Bulgaria for a year.

World champions Spain are ranked first by FIFA with 1 605 points, followed by the Netherlands with 1 571 points, and Germany with 1 290 points. Uruguay is fourth, followed by Portugal, Italy, Brazil, England, Croatia, and Argentina. Bulgaria has 558 points on the 55th position.
