Anders Behring Breivik, who has confessed to killing 77 people in twin terror attacks in Norway on July 22, was filmed by a security camera minutes after he placed a bomb outside a government building in downtown Oslo.

The 32-year-old killer can be seen on a CCTV image published by the ABC Nyheter website walking away from a car after planting the bomb, according to a report of BBC.

Six minutes after the shot was taken, the bomb went off, killing eight people and injuring dozens more.

The CCTV image shows Breivik wearing a home-made police uniform and carrying a pistol in his right hand.

He manages to escape to a waiting car before the explosion.

After the blast in Oslo, the gunman headed for the island of Utoeya, where he shot dead 69 people at a youth summer camp.

Breivik is currently in custody awaiting trial

If convicted, he faces 21 years in prison.

The right-wing extremist has confessed to the killings but denies criminal responsibility, insisting that the massacre was "necessary" to save Norway and Europe from Muslims and multiculturalism.

On September 19, jurors will decide whether Breivik will remain in solitary confinement prior to his trial, which is expected to start in 2012.

Monday's court session will be held behind closed doors
