A strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake has hit Japan's northeastern coast, with no immediate report of injuries or damage.

The quake was centered off the coast of Ibaraki, about 220 km east of Tokyo, and at a depth of 10 km, Japan's Meteorological Agency has informed.

There is no threat of a tsunami, public broadcaster NHK has said.

On March 11, the northeastern coast was struck by a magnitude-9 earthquake, the strongest on record in Japan, and a massive tsunami that triggered the world's worst nuclear crisis in 25 years at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. The disaster left about 20,400 dead or missing.
