Left-wing MPs Petar Kurumbashev and Anton Kutev have notified Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev that Bulgaria's Customs Agency revealed a state secret in a 01 September TV statement.

Speaking in Parliament Wednesday, Kutev insisted that Vanyo Tanov's 01 September statement specifying the quantities and the storage locations of the country's wartime fuel stocks constitutes a crime.

The socialist MP stressed that the steps taken to expose the violation were aimed at supporting the work of Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and upholding the rule of law in the county.

"What we mean to say is that on September 01 he revealed information about the wartime stocks kept at Lukoil Neftochim in a TV statement. This data is protected as a state secret under the Classified Information Act. We believe that these announcements constitute a crime and there are grounds for initiating pre-trial proceedings against Vanyo Tanov", Kutev said.

Tanov's media statement was made in connection with the suspended tax warehouse operator permits of Lukoil over the company's failure to install the required devices within the deadline.

Lukoil had its license revoked by the Customs Agency in end-July, but the legality of the step is still to be decided in court.

Kutev drew attention to the importance of taking steps for the identification of the crime in view of Tanov's post as a customs official.
