Saadi Gaddafi, one of the sons of the fugitive Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, has arrived in neighboring Niger.

The information was reported by BBC Monday.

Niger's government spokesman and Justice Minister Marou Amadou is quoted saying that Saadi Gaddafi was in a convoy along with eight others. The convoy was on its way to Agadez in northern Niger and Saadi and his companions were being allowed in on humanitarian grounds.

Saadi Caddafi does not have official status in Niger and had not asked to remain there as a refugee, according to the Minister.

Thursday and Friday of last week, two other convoys with people close to Gaddafi arrived in Agadez.

The Niger government has recognized the rebel Transitional National Council, NTC's authority, but said it had not yet decided whether it would allow Gaddafi to enter the country.

NTC insist that Niger turns in all Gaddafi supporters and family members who are now in the country. The US has urged Niger to detain any individuals who may be sought for prosecution by the new authorities in Tripoli and confiscate their weapons and money.

Saadi Gaddaf, 38, is a former footballer who had a very brief career in Italy, and he ran the Libyan Football Federation after being national team captain. Since retiring from football, he has become involved in the film industry.

In 2004, he became the head of one of the most elite units of the Libyan army.

Muammar Gaddafi's whereabouts are unknown. He has said he will die in Libya.
