The elementary school in Bulgaria's village of Voditsa, near the northeastern town of Popovo, is opening the 2011 – 2012 school year with brand new woodwork.

The money for the replacement of all window and door frames came from an unexpected inheritance of USD 800 000, given to the village and the "Otets Paisiy" school by American Helen Rincker Ashley.

The will is taken care of by the CAF America Foundation and their Bulgarian partner, Bulgarian Charities Aid Foundation.

The school has 90 students from Voditsa and the nearby villages of Tsar Asen, Osikovo, and Kovachevets. The new woodwork is just the first installment of the funds. Money will be slated for books for the community library, small repairs works, and the big goal – new jobs through social activities.

The donor had been born in 1916 and was a resident of Scottsdale, AZ. She passed away in 2009 and left a will, according to which she wanted all her assets sold, and the establishment of a foundation under her name with 75% of its funds given to Voditsa. The most likely motive for the American lady to pick the village is her distant Bulgarian origins, dating from the 19th century.
