The election campaign for Bulgaria's October 23 presidential and municipal elections will last from September 23 to October 21, Bulgarian Central Election Commission mandated Wednesday.

The campaign will kick of precisely one month before the date of the polls and will close one day before, as the Saturday preceding the election is traditionally and legally reserved for a so-called "reflection day", when no electioneering whatsoever is allowed.

Parties, coalitions and initiative committeed have up to Saturday, September 17 to register their candidates for president and vice-president of Bulgaria.

Up to now, only the GERB center-right ruling party and nationalists Ataka have registered their candidate-presidential tandem.

GERB's hopefuls are ex-Minister of Regional Development Rosen Plevneliev (who filed his resignation from cabinet just Wednesday) and Minister of Justice Margarita Popova (who will be on leave for the campaign).

Ataka's hopefuls are party chair and vice-chair, Volen Siderov and Pavel Shopov.

Electronic media in Bulgaria have it until Monday, September 12, to post their rates for campaign ads.

Candidates will have the opportunities to air free 3-minute addresses on the Bulgarian National Television and Bulgarian National Radio.
