A suspect has been found for the murder of 11-year-old  Presiyan Ivanov in the northeastern Bulgarian city of Shumen has been found, local police authorities have announced.

A 20-year-old man, nicknamed "The Cobra', with whom the boy was last seen alive, has been apprehended. The motive for the grisly crime is still unknown, but was probably sexual, according to local police official Lyubomir Hristov.

The alleged murderer knew the victim and is suffering from a psychiatric illness, the Bulgarian Darik radio has reported. He has been treated in a local mental institution.

On Monday, Presiyan Ivanov was found dead with multiple stab wounds in an unfinished building near the house-museum Pancho Vladigerov.

Presiyan Ivanov went out to play on Sunday and failed to come home by 22:00 o'clock as he had promised.

His mother called 112 to report her son missing.
