The process of nominating the candidates of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party for president and vice president turned into true epics, according to current Bulgarian President, Georgi Parvanov.

Parvanov, cited by the private TV channel bTV, spoke in the aftermath of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, announcing GERB's nomination for president – Regional Minister, Rosen Plevneliev, and for vice president – Justice Minister, Margarita Popova.

The President's only other comment was that he respected all nominations and will continue to do so, regardless of what side of the political spectrum they came in.

On Monday, the President attended a ceremony to bestwo honorary awards to participants in World War II, held in the town of Gulyantsi, near the northern city of Pleven.

"Bulgaria has very strong historical memory; the 4 000 and more monuments of gratitude across the country are a stark proof," he said.

Parvanov bowed to the living participants in WW II and reminded that it had been a just war against fascism. He laid flowers at the monument of army officer, Simeon Yorgov, who perished in the war.

Most Gulyantsi residents flocked to the ceremony and tried to take pictures with the Head of State, whose second term in office expires in January, 2012.
