England defeated Bulgaria 0:3 in Sofia Friday night in a match that almost completely killed the latter's chances to make to Euro 2012.

The fact that the match attracted considerable interest with more than 30 000 fans at the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia, including 3000 Brits, hardly helped motivate the Bulgarians.

The Bulgarian national team of German coach Lothar Matthaeus made it only 13 minutes into the first half without letting England score, which is when the first goal came from Gareth Barry.

Wayne Rooney followed up in the 21st and 45th minute to register a double.

The match was observed by Manchester United's Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov who gave up on the national team almost two years ago.

After Friday's match, Bulgaria have two matches left in qualifying group G, against Switzerland on September 6, and against Wales in October, but their chances to conquer the second spot in group G remain theoretical.
