Bulgaria's Regional Minister Caught Shooting Presidential Campaign Video

New evidence has emerged that Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev will be the candidate of the ruling center-right party GERB in the presidential elections in October.

Plevneliev has been spotted shooting an election campaign video clip at several locations across Sofia, the bTV channel reported Friday night, citing anonymous witnesses.

The report comes just two days before Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is scheduled to announce his party's candidate for President. The long-anticipated announcement was set by Borisov himself for September 4, less than two months before the October 23 elections, because, in his own words, that would be when the reconstruction of the GERB party's central office would be completed.

According to bTV, Plevneliev was noticed with a film crew in downtown Sofia as well as in Business Park Sofia. An anonymous witness said she was passing by and heard Plevneliev say, "I am running for President because..."

Over the past two months, Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev has sought to divert questions whether he would be the presidential candidate of the ruling center-right party GERB in the October 23 elections.

Plevneliev, who has become the most popular member of the Bulgarian government with his work Bulgaria's road and highway projects, surpassing in popularity even Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, has been tipped for the most likely presidential candidate of the GERB party by numerous media reports in the recent months.

The Regional Development Minister himself, a successful construction entrepreneur, has made it clear that he views himself as a technocrat rather than a political figure.

As the ruling party GERB, however, has failed to announce its candidate for the Bulgarian Presidency to date, various speculations remain.
