Bulgarian policemen from the anti-mafia unit for combatting organized crime GDBOP have halted Monday an attempt to export a large amount of heroin from Bulgaria.

15 kilograms of the illegal drug have been caught on Danube Bridge at the Bulgarian-Romanian border in a joint operation between police from the Danube city of Ruse and the capital Sofia.

A 39-year-old Bulgarian man from the southern city of Pazardzhik is under arrest. He has a criminal record for robberies and theft.

The heroin had been hidden in different compartments in his Opel car.
