New elections will be organized in Libya within the next 8 months, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, head of the country's Transitional National Council, has stated.

"Parliamentary and presidential elections are to be organized within 8 months. We want a democratic government and a just constitution," Jalil told the Italian La Repubblica daily on Wednesday.

"Above all we do not wish to continue to be isolated in the world as we have been up to now," he added.

The rebel leader pointed out that that Muammar Gaddafi and his cohorts should eventually be judged "in a fair trial, but it must take place in Libya."

Meanwhile, Gaddafi said in audio speech broadcast on al-Rai TV that Tripoli residents must "cleanse" Tripoli from rebels.

Gaddafi's whereabouts remain still unknown after rebel forces gained control of his compound Tuesday but did not find him there.
