All criminal charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn were officially dismissed Tuesday.

"In light of the circumstances of this case, the Court concludes that nothing called to its attention establishes disqualification or warrants removal of the elected District Attrorney of this county," Manhattan Judge has said in his written ruling.

The former managing director of the International Monetary Fund has said his order would be stayed until an appellate court decides whether a special prosecutor should be appointed, according to The New York Times.

A special prosecutor has been demanded by the accuser's lawyer, who has argued that the district attorney's office is bias in the case.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn has also said that the last two and a half months have been a nightmare for me and his family, and that he looks forward to returning to his home and resuming life as normal.

Strauss-Kahn faced a number of charges in the alleged sexual assault of Nafissatou Diallo, a 32-year-old maid in New York's Sofitel hotel in May. They were: committing a criminal sexual act, attempted rape, sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment and forcible touching.

He was arrested on a flight back to Europe where he had been due to host a series of high-level meetings about Europe's debt crisis.
