Libyan rebel forces are advancing towards the eastern oil port of Ras Lanuf, it has been reported.

The rebels have already taken control over the Ageila from Muammar Gaddafi's loyalists, Al Jazeera said Tuesday.

Even though the rebels have won fights over the last couple of weeks in the western parts of the country and have successfully entered Tripoli, they have experienced difficulties advancing to the eastern parts, where forces loyal to Gaddafi have repelled their attacks.

Some suspect that Gaddafi himself is still in Tripoli, but his whereabouts are still unknown. On Tuesday, Saif al-Islam, Gaddafi's oldest son, staged an appearance in Tripoli in order to disprove the rebels' claims they caught him 24 hours ago.
