Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and members of his family are safe and sound in Tripoli, said second-eldest son Saif al-Islam Monday.
Speaking in an interview for the CNN, Saif al-Islam said he will lead loyalist forces to repel the attackers and on to eventual victory.
He said that his father is safe in the Libyan capital, in spite of numerous NATO bombings of his compound in Bab al Aziziya.
Gaddafi's son described earlier reports that he had been arrested as staged on purpose by the rebel National Transitional Council to discourage loyalists.
He had resurfaced in Tripoli overnight to disprove those rumors and met supporters in apparent very high spirits.
Saif al-Islam stated that Gaddafi forces had trapped rebels in the capital and their defeat was imminent.
Meanwhile the National Transitional Council has not yet commented the turn of events around Gaddafi's second-eldest son, widely perceived as his successor.
