Truck Driver Dead in Accident, Main Bulgaria Road Closed

A heavy truck has overturned on the road between Veliko Tarnovo and Varna in northern Bulgaria near the village of Balvan, causing the death of the driver.

The truck was loaded with timber, which spilled in the accident, causing the section, part of one of the main roads in northern Bulgaria, to be closed for some hours.

The reasons for the accident are yet to be determined as police investigate the site and remove the truck from the road.

Part of the timber has been removed from the road and both directions of the traffic are temporarily moved to one other lane.

Close to 4,000 road accidents have happened in Bulgaria since the start of 2011, leaving more than 400 persons dead.
