Sofia Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, would not be nominated to run for President on the ballot of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party.

The statement was made Tuesday by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who backed his conviction with Fandakova being the favorite to remain Mayor of Sofia after the October 23 elections and have a second term in office.

The Minister pointed out that in all regional cities, GERB would have their own mayoral candidates and would not enter in coalitions or endorse those of other parties as it already did in the Black Sea capital of Varna where current Mayor, Kiril Yordanov, is the ruling party's nomination.

Currently, the only GERB candidate backed in coalition with the right wing and the party of former King and PM, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, NMSP, is the one in the small municipality of Opan.

Tsvetanov, who is the Head of the party's election headquarters, presented Tuesday new GERB nominations for local elections, bringing the total to 199. Another 65 will be presented in September. The Tuesday nominations include two GERB Members of the Parliament, Atanas Kambitov, for the city of Blagoevgrad, and Nikolay Melemov, for the city of Smolyan.

Former football legend and controversial Mayor of the central city of Sliven, Yordan Lechkov, will run for a second term in office, backed by GERB, while Daniel Banov enters the race in Veliko Tarnovo.

From the 28 regional cities, GERB is yet to announce their candidates for the capital Sofia, for Gabrovo, Pernik, and Targovishte.

Tsvetanov further pointed out his party is working actively in the so-called mixed regions, populated by Bulgarians and ethnic, mostly Muslim, minorities.
