Norway police have had 32-year-old right-wing terrorist Anders Breivik x-rayed several days after his arrest to check if he has swallowed an explosive device or remote control.

"We were dealing with a man who had exploded a bomb and who went on to commit many more serious crimes on Utoeya and we had to think of all the possibilities, including that he had swallowed a device," police prosecutor Hjort Kraby told reporters in Oslo, as cited by ABC.

He also said that police authorities had been worried that the right-wing extremist might try to blow himself up during his first appearance in court three days after the attacks or set off a bomb somewhere else, "but the (x-ray) examination was swiftly done and we didn't find anything."

Breivik took part Saturday in an eight-hour reconstruction of his July 22 island massacre, carried out one hour after he set off a car bomb 40 km away in downtown Oslo, leaving eight people dead.

The gunman who killed 69 people in the Norwegian youth camp was taken back to Utoeya to show the police how the rampage took place.

"He was not unaffected, but he showed no remorse for his actions," prosecutor Kraby commented, adding that Saturday's site visit had been vital to the case.

Breivik was taken to Utoeya first by car and then by the same boat he used on the day of the attacks.

The reconstruction was made under heavy security, with Breivik shackled on the boat and kept on "a leash" while on the island.

The 32-year-old self-confessed killer, his lawyer Geir Lippestad and all the police officers wore bullet-proof vests, while police helicopters circled above amid fears of an attempted revenge attack.

Hjort Kraby confirmed that Breivik's account while on the island was consistent with the interviews conducted since his arrest.
