The rule of Bulgaria's center-right GERB cabinet and PM Boyko Borisov needs a corrective from the left, stated the presidential candidate of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, MEP Ivailo Kalfin.

Over the weekend Kalfin is on a tour in Bulgaria's southern Rhodope mountains, including the town of Smolyan and smaller settlements.

"PM Borisov is talking a lot about monopolies in Bulgaria, but the biggest monopoly here is Borisov himself, who decides everything on his own," said the PES MEP Sunday.

He criticized GERB for a highly partisan rule and their leader for authoritarian measures and questioned their economic record.

Kalfin, Bulgaria's Foreign Affairs Minister in the Socialist-led Stanishev coalition cabinet (2005-9), said that if elected he would work for higher incomes of Bulgarian and for a more cohesive development of the different regions of the country.

"GERB's politics is divisive and thus unacceptable. We need unity. And we cannot afford spending on just a single thing - roads and highways," said the socialist candidate.
