Bulgaria national football team coach Lothar Matthaeus is eagerly trying to boost his squad by drawing back star Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov, according to the Mirror.

The British tabloid writes Sunday that Matthaeus is looking at getting back Berbatov as soon as this month, so that he can take part in the Euro 2012 qualifier against England in Sofia September 2.

The Mirror writes that England manager Fabio Capello, who has suffered pressure at home, has personally heard that the Bulgarian coach is confident his plan will succeed.

Dimitar Berbatov officially quit the Bulgarian national football team in May 2010 to make room for younger players and to concentrate on his work with Manchester United.

The paper reasons that Berbatov might this time over choose to return, as he has been having few first-squad games with Manchester of late.

England needs to win the September game against Bulgaria to get better chances at qualifying as the group winner. Bulgaria is almost certain to drop out of the race, but still has theoretical chances.
