A Syrian doctor from Hama reported that during the recent raid of heavy-armed army against protesters, security officers targeted hospitals, severely damaging many.

The unnamed doctor, who spoke to the BBC, said that at least two hospitals have been caused as a result of destruction caused, and one was stormed during the army intervention.

Security forces loyal to embattled President Bashar Al-Assad last week mounted a controversial operation by sending tanks against protesters in Hama, in a move that provoked the ire of the international community.

The BBC source says that people in Hama are now afraid to seek help in the city's hospitals after the attacks which left some hospital patients dead and medics injured.

Two of the city's private hospitals have been closed completely because of the extent of the damage from shelling, writes the BBC, while two more have been partially destroyed.
