The riots in UK have claimed a fifth victim, a 68-year-old man, Richard Mannington Bowes, who died Thursday evening from serious injuries inflicted 3 days ago.

The elderly man was wounded while he was trying to stamp out a fire during the riots in Ealing, west London, according to reports of international news agencies.

He was taken by ambulance to a west London hospital where he died at 11.52 p.m. local time on Thursday evening.

Apart from Bowes, four other people were previously killed, following incidents of disorder.

26-year-old Trevor Ellis was killed during a shooting in the Croydon area of South London and three other men were killed in a hit-and-run incident in Birmingham while attempting to protect their neighborhood from rioters and looters.

The unrest in England erupted on August 06 in Tottenham in protest over the death of 29-year-old Mark Duggan, who was shot dead on August 04 during a police operation.

The riots eventually spread to other UK cities during the next few days, causing extensive damage to homes and businesses.

According to recent statistics, more than 750 people have been arrested in London and 500 in other cities.

Police and Judiciary departments have been requested to work on round the clock basis to handle the crisis.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron cautioned Thursday that Britain would consider calling in the army if rioting persisted in order to free up police to deal with troublemakers.

He also said that the government would extend police powers and compensate people whose houses or businesses had been damaged during the unrest.
