Three people have been arrested in the shooting case in the Hainboaz mountain pass in Bulgaria in which businessman Atanas Atanasov sustained serious injuries.

The news was reported Wednesday by Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, speaking for the Bulgarian National Television, BNT.

The Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, reported late Tuesday evening that two people have been arrested by the police in the central city of Gabrovo. Police dogs located earlier on Tuesday the assailants' car.

One of the three arrested is a Guatemala citizen.

The police made the arrest after receiving information the three will attempt to leave to country. The raid of their homes found a Kalashnikov automatic gun, ammunitions, and other evidence.

When asked if the shooting can be labeled organized crime activity, Tsvetanov answered the three had long rap sheets with effective robbery sentences and are suspected of murders, fraud and rape.

"We have solid information theses and similar crimes have been committed in another European country," the Minister explained.

Atanas Atanasov, 45, was shot on August 3 after his car was ambushed while on a business trip to Stara Zagora. The bullets hit the car's tires and the man himself, causing massive blood loss. He was taken to the hospital in Veliko Tarnovo and listed in critical condition.

The assailants disappeared immediately after, driving away in another car.

It is unclear what motivated them, but there are reports that Atanasov might have been travelling with significant amounts of money related to his business.

Atanasov, a Veliko Tarnovo resident, owns two companies for digital TV and internet.
