British riot police stands outside a Currys store as reports have emerged of stores in Brixton, south London, being targeted by looters after the riots in Tottenham in London, Britain, on 8 August 2011.

New clashes broke out Sunday night in a number of London boroughs, following Saturday's riots in Tottenham which saw widespread looting, violence and disorder.

A large electrical appliances store in Brixton, south London, was looted by several hundred people in the early hours of Monday, while groups of youths pelted police "with various objects", according to reports of BBC.

At the same time, about 50 youths engaged in vandalism in Oxford Circus, central London.

At about 6:30 p.m., police were called to Enfield, north of Tottenham, where packs of young rioters were smashing windows at two shops. A police car was also damaged, officials said.

Scotland Yard has condemned the wave of "copycat criminal activity" across London which started in Tottenham on Saturday evening.

The riots broke out in northern London after a peaceful gathering staged to protest the killing of a 29-year-old man in a clash with police earlier in the week.

The protesters attacked police officers, threw Molotov cocktails, set buildings, police vehicles and a bus on fire, and looted stores.

London Metropolitan Police have stepped up patrols across the British capital, at the same time launching a "major investigation" into the city's worst rioting in years.

Those arrested remain in custody for offences including violent disorder, burglary and theft.

London Mayor Boris Johnson has said he has full confidence in the police and that London remains one of the safest cities in the world.
