Syria will hold elections for a new Parliament by the end of 2011, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid Muallem Saturday.

"Free and transparent elections will be held in Syria, which will constitute a Parliament representing the requests of the Syrian people," stated Muallem at a meeting with foreign ambassadors.

The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated what he termed as the commitment of authorities to a constant reform in line with the measures specified by President Bashar Al-Assad.

Over the week, world leaders, including the UN Security Council, harshly criticized the moves of the Assad regime, which lately included sending tanks against protesters in the city of Hama, which resulted in the deaths of more than 100 people.
