A foreign citizen has been arrested in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, after he bought goods for BGN 14,000 with what turned out to be fake credit cards.

Police were alarmed Friday afternoon by an appliance retail chain, where the person bought a TV, laptop, camera and other units for the above amount, using several cards.

Officers came to the spot to enquire into the circumstances, after which the man presented a Romanian ID, which turned out to be fake.

Police arrested him and searched his hotel room, where he stayed with two other persons, who were also detained.

The persons travelled with a Ford car also registered in Romania. A number of items and documents have been seized for the ongoing investigation.
