The city of Hiroshima was levelled down August 6, 1945 by a single atomic bomb dropped by the US air force.

The world marks Saturday the 66th anniversary of the first use of nuclear weapons in war, the August 6, 1945 American bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

In his speech at the solemn mourning ceremony, Japanese PM Naoto Kan not only denounces nuclear weapons, as the only country in the world to be hit by such.

He also recalled the March incident at the Fukushima NPP in the wake of a 9-degree earthquake and tsunami, which is rated as the second most dangerous after Chernobyl.

"Japan will review its energy policy. We should work for a society that is not dependent on nuclear energy," stated Naoto Kan.

After the ceremony, a rally under the banner "Life without Nuclear Energy and Nuclear Weapons" will be held in Hiroshima.

In Bulgaria, the victims of the twin US bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be commemorated at the Earth and Humans Museum in Sofia.
