Uncle of Bulgaria's FinMin to Run for Mayor

Benko Valev, uncle of Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, is entering the mayoral race in the town of Apriltsi.

The nomination of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party was presented Saturday by the other Deputy PM, Interior Minister, and Head of the GERB election campaign headquarters, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, along with 78 other mayoral nominations. They include candidates for the municipalities of the cities of Dobrich – Petar Petrov, and of Haskovo – Ivan Panayotov, now Head of the Regional Education Inspectorate in the city.

Two GERB Members of the Parliament are among the candidates – Ivan Ivanov, member of the Parliamentary Committee for Environment and Waters will run for Mayor of the town of Sevlievo, and Geogri Ikonomov, member of the Parliamentary Economy Committee – for Mayor of the town of Bansko.

Until Saturday, GERB had introduced the names of 68 other people to run for mayors on the party's ballot – 9 of them are GERB MPs, 7 are Regional and Deputy Regional Governors and 31 are serving mayoral terms.
