The European Commission's annual report on Bulgaria under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, CVM, is moderately objective, according to Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev.

In a second statement in the aftermath of the Wednesday's official release of the report, Velchev, who was personally criticized in it, said he could not fully explain the EC recommendation, which is restated several times, to analyze and appeal high-profile criminal cases with not-guilty verdicts.

The Chief Prosecutor, who offered brief comments before the Thursday meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council, VSS, pointed out all not-guilty verdicts have been carefully and thoroughly analyzed and successfully appealed.

Velchev stressed on the importance of noting that some of these verdicts are not the fault of the prosecution, but the result of evidence, which proved during the trail the defendant was not guilty.
