A suspect has been apprehended for the brutal murder of a young woman, whose body was found in the downtown of Bulgaria's capital Sofia last week.

The country's police authorities have busted a 30-year-old man, but have refused to reveal additional details about his identity until it is proven that he was the perpetrator.

In an interview for the bTV private channel early on Thursday, Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov declared he hoped the murder case would be solved within days.

The body of 28-year-old Yana Krasteva was found on July 10 in the lively Borisova Gradina park. The woman was strangled, police officials said.

After the murder, several media reported that the woman was a "hobo" and an "alcoholic," stirring outrage among her friends and acquaintances on Facebook. It turned out that Krasteva worked in a mall and had applied for college.

"(Interior Minister) Tsvetan Tsvetanov assured me that the Interior Ministry was working painstakingly on the case and the killer would be busted within days," Krasteva's father, Yavor Krastev, has told the 24 chasa daily.

On Wednesday, the Facebook group "Let's Protect Our Children from Yana's Killers" published a computer-generated sketch of a "dangerous" individual who is said to have been lurking around the Sofia central park Borisova Gradina, where the young woman's body was found.

A second body, that of a middle-aged woman yet to be identified, was found last Friday just 300 meters from where Krasteva's body was found. It is unknown whether she was a murder victim.
