Bulgaria's Cabinet has decided that in addition to winter, spring, and summer breaks, students in the country should also have a fall break.

The fall break of the school year will be scheduled around November 1, which is celebrated as the Day of Bulgaria's Enlighteners, and is a day off for school and university students.

However, because of the new fall break, students will no longer enjoy the traditional minor term break (usually in early February); instead, the term break will be merged with the winter/Christmas break.

The "break issue" came to the fore in the winter of 2011 when schoolchildren in Bulgaria attempted to stage a Facebook-organized boycott of the first day after the winter break because they deemed the break too short.

According to the government, however, the new fall break will allow for greater flexibility in the winter months, also saving the schools heating money. Bulgaria's school year traditionally starts on September 15.
