European Ombudsman Nikiforos Diamandouros has lavished praise on Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

"I would like to express my admiration for your decisiveness in the name of and in the interest of citizens of the Republic of Bulgaria. Discipline is the best possible way of pursuing a good policy. You, from a political aspect, and we, from the aspect of the Ombudsman institution, work to ensure that Bulgarian citizens can better exercise their rights.", Diamandouros said at a Wednesday meeting with the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

The talks were also attended by Bulgarian Ombudsman Konstantin Penchev, who initiated the two-day visit of his European counterpart.

Diamandouros expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the government for nominating Konstantin Penchev for the post in end-2010.

"After my meetings with him I can firmly declare that he has steered the development of the institution into a new direction. I will work with him to increase the chances of Bulgarian citizens for a better use of their rights in compliance with European law. I would like to make a suggestion for a discussion on the ways in which the powers of the Bulgarian Ombudsman can be enhanced, as is the case in all European countries", he added.

Prime Minister Borisov thanked the European Ombudsman for the good appraisal and declared his and the Cabinet's unwavering support for equal access and better exercising of civil rights.
