The overnight blasts in Sofia have been an intimidation attempt, according to Commissar, Stanimir Florov.

Florov made the statement Tuesday during a special police press conference about the overnight explosions in front of the offices of two Bulgarian opposition parties, rocking Sofia overnight and damaging neighboring buildings.

The first blast went off at 3:58 a.m. in front of the headquarters of the conservative Order, Law and Justice Party, RZS, in downtown Sofia. About twenty minutes later another explosion ripped off the air in front of an office of the party of former Prime Minister Ivan Kostov, the die-hard right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria.

The Head of the Unit for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) pointed out both bombs contained about 150 grams of trotyl (T.N.T.), which along with the timing, could mean the two explosions were the work of the same perpetrator, adding other detailed information is currently unavailable.

The incidents are being investigated by joint teams of GDBOP and the Sofia Directorate of Interior Affairs (SDVR).

According to Florov, the bombs were set-off with matches or a lighter and it was a miracle no one got injured and there is not more extensive damage.

The Commissar further informed the explosive devices were the same as the ones at the offices of the anti-government weekly tabloid Galeria several months ago. He said the investigation in the latter case has some leads, but is nowhere near conclusion.

Florov stressed the solution of similar cases takes a long time unlike in TV series such as CSI Miami.
